WWE lands a big talent.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that WALTER, one of the top names on the European scene, has signed with WWE. WALTER currently holds the PROGRESS and OTT World Titles along with the Defiant Internet Title. He is best known for his runs in PROGRESS and wXw, but has competed stateside for PWG and EVOLVE.
WWE has been interested in WALTER for quite some time and reportedly offered him a contract back in March. However, WALTER denied that a formal offer was made. He told The Mirror back in September that he had no interest in joining Raw or SmackDown as he didn't want to move to the United States. In the same interview, he did offer praise for NXT.
The NXT UK brand has taken off over the past couple of months with a permanent time slot on the WWE Network and the announcement of the first-ever NXT UK TakeOver, which is set for Jan. 12. Earlier today, it was reported that NXT UK talent could not appear for non-WWE partnered promotions. PROGRESS, OTT, and wXw all have a working agreement with WWE.
WALTER is currently scheduled to defend his PROGRESS World Title on Dec. 9. He will finish out his remaining Independent dates before joining WWE.
