JBL is a former WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, and three-time Tag Team Champion alongside Faarooq (Ron Simmons). Simmons was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012.

JBL last wrestled in the 2014 Royal Rumble as a surprise appearance. His last singles match took place against Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 25. JBL lost the bout and announced his retirement the day after. He served as the special guest commentator for the 2019 Men's Royal Rumble match.

As of now, the only confirmed inductees into the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame class are the New World Order (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, & Sean Waltman) and Batista. Other names reportedly set to be inducted include The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella), Jushin "Thunder" Liger, and "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith.

The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for April 2 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The ceremony is part of the WrestleMania 36 weekend festivities.
