A key player of AEW’s women’s division is reportedly injured.
Kris Statlander may be spending some time convalescing in the Andromeda Galaxy as she has suffered a knee injury at the most recent AEW Dynamite tapings, according to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.
Statlander was featured in a tag match on Wednesday's Dynamite, where she teamed with AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida in a losing effort against Nyla Rose and Penelope Ford.
Statlander was also involved in the tag team match that saw Britt Baker receive a knee injury a few weeks back on Dynamite. Baker had even named Statlander as a conspirator to her injury and vowed revenge on her. Baker is set to return at AEW All Out in September.
In the past, Statlander has received an opportunity at the AEW Women's Championship as she challenged Nyla Rose in a losing effort back in February at AEW Revolution. Before that, she was being positioned as the main protagonist against Brandi Rhodes’ Nightmare Collective, before the group abruptly disbanded.
Kris Statlander would later take to Twitter to confirm that after performing a suicide dive onto Kip Sabian, she suffered a high-grade ACL tear and will be having surgery. While she knows that she will be out of action, she says she will do her best to continue appearing on TV when possible.
Since the news is out. I told you I’d dive on Kip again and dammit I did. But in doing so, I ended up with a high grade tear in my ACL. Yes I need surgery. Yes I’ll be out of the ring for a while. I’ll do my best to still show up on your TVs as much as I can. @AEWrestling ---- https://t.co/oVS495nwok
