NXT Champion Finn Balor has previously stated that he would be open to defending the NXT Championship on WrestleMania. Edge teased the idea of facing Balor as he was pondering his decision on whom to face following his 2021 Men's Royal Rumble victory.

He ultimately chose WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

NXT Women's Champion Io Shirai was essentially dismissed as a potential challenger for 2021 Women's Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair. Belair made her WrestleMania decision on SmackDown and Shirai was not part of the pre-decision video package. Belair chose to face SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair.
