Report: Tommaso Ciampa Dealing With An Injury

A top NXT star could be on the shelf sooner than later.

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer states that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is dealing with an injury, but said that he wasn't sure the nature of said injury. Regardless, reportedly Ciampa's plan is do handle it and have it taken care of following his planned match at NXT Takeover with longtime friend/foe Johnny Gargano in April.

It's unknown if it's related, but on the February 19 episode of Smackdown Live, Ciampa had a major injury scare as he and Sheamus had a rough looking sunset flip powerbomb spot. Sheamus came down awkwardly on Ciampa's left knee, twisting it backwards. Fightful would later report that backstage after the match, both Ciampa and Sheamus assured WWE officials that they were fine. Ciampa would work the next night's NXT tapings, and neither he or Gargano have been on WWE television since.

Ciampa famously missed most of 2017 with a severe knee injury before returning the following year to engage in a long feud with Gargano.
