Wade Barrett could be on the verge of returning to WWE in a full-time capacity.
According to Mike Johnson at PWInsider, Barrett and WWE are negotiating a full-time deal for Barrett to return as an announcer.
Barrett provided commentary for last Wednesday's NXT and is set to appear on Tuesday's NXT as well. According to Johnson, those appearances were a "feeling out" process to see if the two parties would continue to work together.
Johnson goes on to report that Barrett would not be returning as an in-ring performer and there has been talk that Barrett could provide commentary for the NXT UK brand.
Barrett won the original season of NXT in 2010 when the show was closer to a reality competition than a third wrestling brand. He left WWE in 2016 and went on to pursue a career in Hollywood. Under his real name of Stu Bennett, Barrett had been doing commentary work for the NWA before the pandemic caused them to go on hiatus.
Fightful will provide more details on Barrett's status as it is known.
