Report: World Of Sport Exploring Potential Relaunch, Contacted Nick Aldis And Mickie James

World of Sport is reportedly exploring a relaunch, and it has reached out to two major names.

The program was a popular British wrestling show in the 1970s and 1980s, and it dates back to 1965. It relaunched as part of a partnership with IMPACT Wrestling for a one-off special in 2016. After a few stops and starts, World of Sports taped a season of TV in 2018, and at different points, names like Jim Ross, Will Ospreay, Rampage Brown, Kay Lee Ray, Joe Hendry, and Stu Bennett were attached to the new era.

World of Sport landed a TV deal with Stadium in 2019, and it went on a live tour in 2019. But after its broadcast partner, ITV, acquired the rights to AEW, the promotion faded away.

In an update, Inside The Ropes reports that the "consortium" behind World of Sport are considering a relaunch, and they have talked to Nick Aldis and Mickie James about it. The report notes that various approaches are being evaluated, including an NWA-like model that would utilize a studio to tape shows and hold live events at a low cost.

Aldis, a two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, recently announced that he gave the promotion his notice, so he will enter free agency in January 2023. James, a ten-time champion between WWE and IMPACT Wrestling, continues to compete for IMPACT, where she is on her "Last Rodeo".

Fightful will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.

Aldis recently clarified his comment that NWA is the most toxic brand in wrestling. Click here to see what he had to say.
