From the looks of things, this year’s WrestleMania card will not feature a battle royal as it has been the case for the past several years.
According to a report from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, there will be no Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal or Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 36 in order to prevent the risk of the coronavirus spreading with so many wrestlers in such close proximity in the ring. The decision was done to comply with CDC and government recommendations as much as possible while producing the event.
This year’s WrestleMania was originally supposed to take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, the show was moved to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. In addition, WWE announced that WrestleMania 36 will be a two-day event, starting on April 4 and ending on April 5 with Rob Gronkowski serving as the host for both nights.
Several matches have already been announced for WrestleMania with Edge vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match likely to be added next as Edge issued a challenge but WWE has yet to officially confirm that.
The first Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal took place at WrestleMania 30 in 2014, which was won by Cesaro. The first Women's Battle Royal took place at WrestleMania 34 in 2018 which was won by Naomi.
WWE has already moved both Raw and SmackDown to the Performance Center for the time being with the last episode of each show taking place there and upcoming shows scheduled to emanate from the Performance Center.
Fightful will have live coverage of both nights of WrestleMania 36.
