REPORT: WWE Looking At Former TNA Knockouts For Upcoming Women's Tournament

As the upcoming WWE Women’s Tournament approaches, details as to who will participate in the tournament are becoming clearer.

According to PWInsider, company officials are very interested in scouting talent from the all-female promotion SHIMMER. Other names that are believed to be scouted and have had a tournament spot offered are former TNA Knockouts Champion Jade and Marti Belle who is a former Tag Team Champion at Shine Wrestling, another all-female promotion.

WWE has noted that women from 17 different countries will be represented in the tournament as international talents will be a major focus. It is believed that WWE is focused on bringing in several wrestlers from the World Wonder Ring Stardom promotion in Japan as well including Welsh wrestler Nixon Newell and Evie from New Zealand.

WWE is set to begin taping the tournament on July 13 and 14 at Full Sail University. According to the report, the current plan is to release three or four episodes of the tournament at a time via the WWE Network, instead of one weekly episode.

The format is a departure from how the WWE Network released episodes for the Cruiserweight Classic, which was also a 32-person single elimination tournament taped for several weeks at Full Sail University. The planned format for the Women’s Tournament is similar to how they have done with Camp WWE and Holy Foley. WWE is planning for the tournament finals to be aired live on August 29.
