AEW Dynamite (8/16/23) Results

* AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy (c) def. Wheeler Yuta.

- After the bell, the Blackpool Combat Club assaults Cassidy, and Best Friends rush to the ring to defend him. The Lucha Brothers hit the scene and save Best Friends. Eddie Kingston returns and helps fight the BCC, going straight for Claudio before BCC retreats. Kingston grabs a microphone and challenges Blackpool Combat Club to a Stadium Stampede Match at AEW All In in Wembley.

- Jim Ross interviews Kenny Omega in a pre-tape. The interview was recorded in Jacksonville at Daily's Place. Kenny Omega says he wants to move on from Don Callis and not live for vengeance. Don interrupts the interview and has Jay White & Juice Robinson beat up Kenny Omega with Konosuke Takeshita. Later, Adam Page heads to the hospital to check on Kenny and says there will be a six-man tag in Wembley, with Kenny teaming up with himself and Kota Ibushi.

- In the present day, Don Callis is standing in the ring with a painting hiding under a sheet. Don invites Chris Jericho to the ring to answer his offer. Chris Jericho surprises everyone by saying yes to the offer. Don tries to usher Chris out of the ring quickly. Jericho wants to see the painting, and Don tells him not to worry. Eventually, Jericho pulls the sheet off and sees a painting of Don Callis holding Chris Jericho's severed head. Jericho wants to know what's going on. Don says Jericho is so selfish that he wouldn't accept. Jericho says nobody cared about Don Callis several years ago, and they still don't. Don slaps Jericho. Jericho goes to attack him. Takeshita cuts him off, but Jericho fights him off. Will Ospreay then surprises everyone and appears to attack Jericho. Ospreay slams a chair into Jericho. Sammy Guevara saves Jericho after Ospreay, Takeshita, and Callis leave him bloody.

- A package recalls Jack Perry's reign as FTW Champion. He discusses his victory over Rob Van Dam and proclaims himself the greatest FTW Champion ever. Perry wants to go out on top to retire the title next week.

* Darby Allin & Nick Wayne def. Gates Of Agony (Toa Liona & Kaun)

- After the bell, Sting shows up on the video wall in full Joker regalia and announces he is now directing movies. He warns AR Fox that he must have eyes at the back of his skull because of the Coffin Match at AEW All In. The camera shows him keeping Prince Nana hostage. "It's showtime," says Sting to Nana, a scared Nana flees. Stinger sings him out the door with "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye."

- In a vignette, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Adam Cole bond more. Max has the idea that they must go to Outback Steakhouse to study their Australian opponents for Zero Hour. Max is worried about how good their wrestling will be when the food from the Outback is so good. Cole suggests they see some Australian movies. MJF watches a video of kangaroos fighting and is inspired by it, wanting to do Kangaroo Kicks against Aussie Open. They both imitate Crocodile Dundee backstage. They practice a double clothesline and send a random stagehand into a kiddie pool backstage. This sends us into a segment with Tony Khan behind a closed door yelling at them for acting like children behind the scenes. Max makes a joke that Tony will regret that in 2024.

- In the parking lot, MJF and Cole arrive. They head to the ring, and Roderick Strong calls out for Adam. He injures his foot as he kicks MJF & Cole's tire.

- Adam Cole & MJF take a break from being brochachos to talk about why they're each going to win the main event of All In. Adam Cole channels Stone Cold Steve Austin on The Road to WrestleMania 17 and says he needs to win the title more than anything in the world and will do whatever he has to to get it. Max tells the story about how he got booked on the first All In. Aussie Open attack MJF and Cole, but they are thwarted. Cole teases a Superkick on Max, but Max turns around, and they embrace and stand tall.

- Renee Paquette questions a bloody Chris Jericho backstage about Will Ospreay assaulting him. He claims that Ospreay would have faced him in the Tokyo Dome if it hadn't been for the pandemic. Jericho challenges Ospreay to a match at AEW All In.

* Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match: Jeff Jarrett def. Jeff Hardy. This match involved all the members of Jarrett's squad and the Hardy Party. In the end, Leatherface showed up, and Jay Lethal hit Hardy with a hammer, setting up Satnam to Chokeslam him, and Jeff Jarrett got the victory.

* To Qualify For AEW Women's Title Match At All In: Dr. Britt Baker DMD def. The Bunny

- The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) come to the ring. The lights go out, and when they come back up, The House of Black appears behind them, and The Acclaimed are attacked and bloodied.

* The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) def. The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn)

- Jay White and Juice Robinson go after The Young Bucks after the bell rings. Bullet Club Gold surrounds The Bucks and go to attack Matt Jackson's already damaged arm. FTR makes the save and helps The Young Bucks fight off Bullet Club Gold and the All In.
