WWE Raw (9/4/23) Results: Gunther Defends Intercontinental Title vs. Chad Gable, Tornado Tag Match

WWE hosted its latest episode of Monday Night Raw on September 4, 2023. The episode features Gunther defending the WWE Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable.

Plus, The Viking Raiders take on Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle in a Tornado Tag Match.

WWE Raw (9/4/23) Results

- Jey Uso opened up the show. He came down to say that even though he's only been off TV for three weeks, he's still really missed the audience. He knows that individuals in the back are going to have a problem with him. This brings out Sami Zayn. Sami Zayn says he wanted to tell Jey Uso to his face that he is proud of him for leaving Roman Reigns, and he's glad he's on Monday Night Raw. Sami offers Jey a handshake. Uso appears to decline and then says that wasn't very "Ucey" of him before he and Sami hug it out.

- Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle come down for their Tornado Tag Team Match. Each seems to have a big problem with Jey Uso being on Monday Night Raw. Sami Zayn tries to play peacekeeper.

- Adam Pearce is talking to Ricochet backstage when Seth Rollins appears. Adam seems to be upset that he is backstage. Seth Rollins says he doesn't care what medical says or that Jey Uso is on Raw. He's doing just fine.

* Tornado Tag Team Match: The Viking Raiders (Ivar & Erik w/ Valhalla) def. Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle. Kofi Kingston tried to get involved and attack The Viking Raiders but accidentally hit Matt Riddle with the Trouble in Paradise. Ragnarok through a table on Riddle. Viking Raiders win.

- A video package briefly runs through the history of the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Gunther vs. Gable will be the main event.

- Seth Rollins heads to the ring and calls out Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura comes out. Rollins offers him a World Heavyweight Championship match on the spot. Nakamura declines. Seth Rollins runs down the ramp to beat him up anyway. Officials and Ricochet come down to break up the fight. Nakamura faces Ricochet next.

- Adam Pearce reprimands Rollins backstage for starting issues.

* Ricochet def. Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification. They began brawling outside when Shinsuke Nakamura took a steel chair and hit Ricochet across the back for the DQ. Rollins comes down to save Ricochet. They start brawling again. Seth Rollins takes out security and dives on Nakamura. They brawl outside. Nakamura throws Rollins back first into the steel stairs. Ricochet grabs a steel chair to chase Nakamura away.

- Backstage, Mr. Money in the Bank, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley are watching what's going on, and she tells him, "not tonight."

- A recap plays of the steel cage match between Becky Lynch and Stratus and the aftermath with Trish and Zoey Stark. Stark is an interview by Jackie Redmond about the potential end of her partnership with Trish. Shayna Baszler shows up and says that Zoey should have gotten rid of the dead weight long ago. Zoey challenges her to a match for later.

- Judgment Day heads down to the ring. It's all love between all four members as they brag about their accomplishments and running Monday Night Raw. Ripley says she's irritated by Jey Uso appearing on Monday Night Raw and people talking about The Bloodline. JD McDonagh interrupts. The other members of Judgment Day who are not Finn Balor still have a problem with him. He continues to try to win their good graces by handing Damian Priest a custom Money in the Bank briefcase that is purple and says Senor Money in the Bank. Sami Zayn interrupts and calls the group a bunch of turds. He challenges Dominik Mysterio to a match, but JD McDonagh speaks up and offers to wrestle Sami Zayn instead. The match is made for later tonight.

- Another Intercontinental Championship video package runs, followed by a promo from Gunther.

- Raquel Rodriguez is in Adam Pearce's office. They agree on something undetermined. Chelsea Green comes in. It's announced that Piper Niven is not medically cleared. Adam suggests that maybe Chelsea is the one that's cursed instead of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Chelsea goes off on Raquel being a loser. Raquel is, of course, standing right behind her. A match is made between the two of them for later tonight.

* Shayna Baszler def. Zoey Stark. They fist bump after the match in a sign of begrudging respect.

- The camera pans to the Judgment Day locker room. Finn Balor says it's time to bring JD into the group officially. Damian says he needs to prove himself first. Ripley wants to see how things go later when he faces Zayn. Priest and Balor leave, but Ripley holds Mysterio back and tells him that he must ensure everything goes according to plan tonight.

* Raquel Rodriguez def. Chelsea Green

- Raquel Rodriguez announces that she spoke to Adam Pearce, and they both agreed that she will face Rhea Ripley in a Women's World Championship match next week with Dominik Mysterio barred from ringside.

- A third Intercontinental Championship history package airs, followed by a promo from Chad Gable saying he's going to add to his legacy tonight.

- The Miz heads to the ring to address the WWE Universe.

- A recap airs of what happened earlier between Kofi Kingston and Matt Riddle. Drew McIntyre goes looking for Kofi. Riddle tries to calm him down. He says he thinks he's very calm, considering all that's happened tonight. He's not happy about Jey Uso being on Monday Night Raw or what happened with Kofi Kingston earlier. Kofi Kingston confronts McIntyre. McIntyre says he's going to be wary of any more accidents.

- The Miz interviews an invisible John Cena. John is taking his catchphrase a little too seriously. The Miz says that for the past 18 years, he's not only been able to see John Cena, but he's been able to see right through him. He asks invisible John Cena with LA Knight paid him at WWE Payback or if he was purposely screwed over. Lots of "yeah!" chants from the crowd, which Miz doesn't like. The Miz says the magic WWE Payback should be stripped from the record. Miz starts arguing and fighting with the invisible John Cena, who actually manages to back him down. This gets "holy shit" chants from the crowd. The Miz hits invisible John Cena with a Skull Crushing Finale. He then challenges LA Knight to another match. The Miz says LA Knight and his fairy tale is as real as an imaginary John Cena. He's going to send it all crashing down because he's The Miz, and he's awesome.

- A Gunther/Gable video package airs.

- Adam Pearce runs into Jey Uso backstage. He tells him that Smackdown has to get an equal trade for him coming to Monday Night Raw, and people may not be happy with him afterward. Tommaso Ciampa then approaches Adam to finish a conversation they were having.

* JD McDonagh def. Sami Zayn. Dominik Mysterio shows up to distract Sami Zayn long enough for JD to roll him up with added leverage by holding onto the tights

- Zayn attacks Dom and uses an exploder to send Dominik into the corner after the match. Zayn goes for the Helluva Kick, but McDonagh saves Dominik and tells him to leave. Zayn returns to the ring and delivers a Helluva Kick to gain a little revenge on JD.

- Dominik Mysterio tries to recruit Uso into Judgment Day. He said they're not so different; they both come from broken families.

- Cody Rhodes will return next week
