WWE SmackDown (12/20) Records Decline In Average Viewership Against Indiana-Notre Dame CFB Playoff Game

The show starts off with a highlight package showing the rivalry between Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Sheamus and Cesaro.

Dean Ambrose makes his way to the ring and he quickly grabs a microphone, Ambrose says people are wondering about his relationship with Seth Rollins. Rollins makes his way to the ring to shed some light on the situation, Ambrose says he is sick and tired of the games with Rollins. Rollins says that he knows that Ambrose does care about him and they could run the place if they teamed up again, Rollins says he is done playing games and he sticks the fist out. Ambrose refuses to pound fists with Rollins and he is pissed off about last week, Rollins proclaims that it is their differences that bring them together. Ambrose knocks the microphone out of Rollins hand and also gets rid of his microphone, Ambrose sticks his fist out there and Rollins walks away.

Ambrose and Rollins start brawling until Ambrose tries walking away, that allows Rollins to attack Ambrose from behind and they brawl to the arena floor. The brawl stops when Sheamus and Cesaro make their way to the ring to attack Rollins and Ambrose, The tag champs trap Rollins in the ring and work him over, Ambrose returns to the ring and he gets worked over by the tag champs. Rollins recovers and he works with Ambrose to fight the tag champs off, Ambrose and Rollins finally fist bump to make the reunion official.

Raw GM Kurt Angle makes his way out to the stage to announce that Sheamus & Cesaro will defend the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles against Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

Michael Cole and the announce team address the health issues surrounding the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and they all wish him well in his battles.

 

Prior to the match, WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss sits on a lifeguard chair positioned near the ring.

WWE Raw Women’s Title #1 Contenders Tournament Finals

Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

The match begins with Banks attacking Jax with some forearm strikes, Jax quickly plows through Banks to take her down as we go to a commercial break. We return from the break to see a downed Banks kicks upwards at Jax, Jax knocks Banks to the ring apron before nailing her with a headbutt. Jax goes to the arena floor and Banks leaps at her, Jax catches Banks and throws her into the barricade. Jax throws Banks into the ring to get a near fall, Jax slows things down further by holding Banks in a bear hug. Jax releases the hold before just tossing Banks across the ring a few times, Jax then plows through Banks before landing a leg drop for a near fall.

Jax then picks Banks up and she holds her in an elevated double chicken wing, Banks escapes by catching Jax with a roll up. Banks jumps on the back of Jax and Jax eventually catches her with a Samoan drop for another near fall, Jax gets angry and lands another Samoan drop. Jax goes for the pin and Banks rolls out of the ring to buy herself some time, Jax follows Banks out of the ring and she throws her back into the ring. Banks starts fighting back and she catches Jax with a roll up for a near fall, Jax misses an elbow drop as we go to another commercial break.

We return from the break to see Banks on the top rope and Jax following her up there, Banks attacks Jax with a bunch of strikes before attempting a sunset flip bomb. Banks winds up catching Jax with a double knee strike to the midsection for a near fall, Banks then cracks Jax with a series of knee strikes to the face, Jax recovers and nails a charging Banks with a big boot to the midsection.Banks somehow catches Jax in the Bank Statement, Jax breaks free and Banks nails her with a tornado DDT. Banks locks Jax in the Bank Statement again and Jax taps out.

Winner: Sasha Banks

Raw GM Kurt Angle is shown watching a monitor in the office, the Hardy Boys appear and Angle is about to speak when The Miz arrives. The Miz wants Angle to make up for unleashing Brock Lesnar on Miz TV last week, Angle then makes Curtis Axel versus Jason Jordan for tonight. The Miz says that he will face Jordan tonight instead, but a referee arrives to tell Angle something happened between Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt.

Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt are brawling after the commercial break as Kurt Angle and security are trying to break it up, Angle then announces the two will have a match tonight.

Elias is in the ring and he asks the people “who wants to walk with Elias?” Elias talks about Fenway Park being a dump, before performing a song about the city of Boston. R-Truth interrupts by performing a rap song while making his way to the ring, Elias attacks Truth as he makes his way to the ring. Elias catches Truth with Drift Away, Elias grabs his guitar and leaves the ring.

A shark cage is being lowered to the ring as we go to a commercial break.

Big Cass makes his way to the ring with the shark cage completely lowered, Cass grabs the microphone and he talks about his match this Sunday at WWE Summerslam. The fans constantly interrupt his promo with a lot of hateful jeering, Cass says that it matters when he talks. Cass says that Enzo Amore needs Big Show because he always needs somebody to protect him, Cass says that Show needs Enzo say he can stay relevant. Cass says that there is a new seven footer on the block and his name is Big Cass, then says Show cannot defeat him with Enzo’s help.

Cass says that he plans on proving to everybody that he is the best big man in the WWE today, Enzo’s music plays and he makes his way onto the stage. Enzo goes through his whole shtick on the stage as Cass watches, Cass demands that Enzo come to the ring and face him now. Enzo brings out the Big Show and they make their way to the ring, Show goes after Cass until Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows hit the ring to attack Show. Show gets triple teamed and worked over by Cass and friends, Enzo tries to help and Cass kicks him in the face. The trio traps the arm of Show before Cass slams the shark cage door on it, Cass then stomps away on the downed hand of Show until officials break it up.

WWE Cruiserweight Title Match

Neville (Champion) vs. Akira Tozawa w/Titus O’Neil

The match begins with Neville dropping Tozawa and locking him in a chin lock, Tozawa gets free and he drops Neville with a drop kick followed by chops in the corner. Neville stops the chops by attacking Tozawa with a kick to the midsection, Tozawa propels Neville to the ring apron and then to the arena floor. Neville returns to the ring and Tozawa drops him with a right for the near fall, Neville rolls back out of the ring as we go to a commercial break. We return from the break to see Neville nailing Tozawa with a missile drop kick for a near fall, Neville slows things down further by holding Tozawa in an arm bar.

Tozawa breaks free and he drops Neville with a back suplex, Tozawa catches Neville with a spin kick before landing a belly to back suplex. Neville rolls to the arena floor and Tozawa catches him with a series of suicide dives, Tozawa gets Neville back in the ring for a near fall. Neville then misses a drop kick and Tozawa catches him with a senton. Tozawa goes to the top rope and Neville meets him up there, Neville eats a bunch of strikes before nailing Tozawa with a superplex. Neville then attacks Tozawa with a series of kicks before Tozawa catches him with an hurricarana, Tozawa then hits Neville with an enzaguri.

Tozawa jumps off the top rope to avoid a charging Tozawa, Neville uses the referee to distract Tozawa before briefly applying the Rings Of Saturn. Neville then sends Tozawa crashing into the turnbuckles, Neville goes for the Red Arrow and Tozawa gets out of the way. Tozawa lands the top rope senton bomb for the three count.

Winner: Akira Tozawa w/Titus O’Neil, your new WWE Cruiserweight Champion

After the match, Titus O’Neil and Apollo Crews celebrate with the new champion.

An injured Big Show is told by a doctor backstage that his hand is broken, Enzo Amore wants him to forget about WWE Summerslam and he refuses to do so.

Highlights from the Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks match from earlier tonight are shown as well.

Mickie James is in the locker room when Emma walks in talking about how she got screwed last week on WWE Raw. Emma says that she is tired of the NXT women and older wrestling coming back stealing her spotlight, Mickie says Emma didn’t start the women’s revolution because all the women of the WWE did. Mickie challenge Emma to a match tonight and Emma accepts.

Bray Wyatt makes his way to the ring as we go to a commercial break.

Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor

The match begins with Balor attacking Wyatt just as the bell sounds, Balor then locks Wyatt in a headlock after landing a knee strike. Wyatt escapes and Balor attacks him with a series of chops, Balor goes to the ring apron before kicking Wyatt in the face. Wyatt quickly drops Balor and he drags him into the ring before landing some more shots, Balor recovers to send Wyatt out of the ring before landing a basement drop kick. Balor then goes to the ring apron to nail Wyatt with a penalty kick as we go to a commercial break, we return from the break to see Wyatt holding Balor in a chin lock.

Balor fights back and Wyatt crushes him with a swinging gut buster for a near fall, Wyatt and Balor get into a striking exchange in the middle of the ring. Wyatt eventually drops Balor before reapplying the chin lock, Balor breaks free after landing a jawbreaker followed by an overhead kick. Balor then kicks a charging Wyatt in the face a few times before landing a series of drop kicks, Balor would then hit Wyatt with a running chop. Wyatt tries going to the top rope and Balor kicks him off for a near fall, Balor goes for a DDT and Wyatt escapes to nail him with a running cross body block for a near fall.

Wyatt goes for the uranage and Balor escapes to land a sling blade, Wyatt causes Balor to miss a move before landing a senton bomb for a near fall. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail and Balor counters by landing a double stomp, Wyatt gets out of the ring and Balor nails him with a suicide dive. Balor throws Wyatt back into the ring before going to the top rope, Wyatt then drags Balor off the ropes before landing Sister Abigail for the three count.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

After the match, Bray Wyatt grabs Finn Balor and he nails him with another Sister Abigail. The lights then go off and Wyatt is holding a bucket when they come back on, Wyatt dumps a bunch of blood on Balor.

Highlights are shown next of the reunion between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

Mickie James vs. Emma

The match begins with Emma backing James into the corner before applying a headlock, James escapes and she catches Emma with a clothesline followed by a bulldog. James drops Emma again before nailing her with a running kick to the face for a near fall, Emma tries fighting back and James nails her with a flapjack. James goes to the top rope and Emma pushes her off to send her crashing to the arena floor, Emma throws James back into the ring for a near fall. Emma drops James to the mat before applying the full nelson, James catches Emma with a roll up before eating a clothesline.

Emma gets angry and she attacks James with a plethora of strikes, Emma stands on the hair of James while pulling on her arms. Emma then hits James with a butterfly suplex for a near fall, James then cracks a charging James with a kick to the face. James goes back to the top top rope and Emma gets her off for another near fall, James nails Emma with a Mick Kick from out of nowhere for a three count.

Winner: Mickie James

The Miz and The Miztourage are walking backstage.

Finn Balor comes out of Raw GM Kurt Angle’s office, he announces that he has a rematch with Bray Wyatt at WWE Summerslam.

Non-Title Match

The Miz (WWE Intercontinental Champion) w/The Miztourage vs. Jason Jordan

The match begins with Jordan catching Miz with an overhead slam, Jordan goes for another slam and Miz gets to the ropes before landing an elbow strike. Jordan recovers and knocks Miz out of the ring with a drop kick, Jordan slams Miz into the corner before nailing a spear in the corner. The Miztourage jump Jordan to cause a DQ.

Winner: Jason Jordan, by DQ

After the match, The Miz and The Miztourage continue attacking Jordan until the Hardy Boyz make the save.

An impromptu 6 Man Tag Team Match was made during the commercial break.

Jason Jordan & Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) vs. The Miz & The Miztourage (Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas)

Jordan is working over Axel as the match started during a commercial, Axel tries working over Jordan in the corner and Jordan nails him with a drop kick. Axel escapes and Dallas comes in to be taken down by Jordan, Matt tags in and he drops Dallas for a near fall. Matt starts working over the arm of Dallas, Jeff tags in and he attacks Dallas with a series of double team moves alongside Matt. Dallas tries fighting back and Jeff nails him with a clothesline, Jordan tags back in and he works over the arm of Dallas. Miz tags in as Jorda throws Dallas out of the ring, Jordan takes Miz down before working him over in the corner.

Jordan misses a charge into the corner and Miz stomps away on Jordan as we go to a commercial break, we return from the break to see Axel holding Jordan in a chin lock. Axel goes for a dive off the middle rope and Jordan gets out of the way, Matt tags in and he immediately goes to work on Axel. Matt catches Axel with a running bulldog for a near fall, Matt then hits Axel with a reverse bulldog for another near fall. Axel recovers to attack a distracted matt from behind, Miz tags in and he stomps away on a downed Matt. Dallas tags in and he nails Matt with a bunch of knee drops, Dallas slows things down by holding Matt in a chin lock.

Axel tags in and he mauls a downed Matt with some strikes, Axel applies another chin lock to a downed Matt. Matt fights back and he drops Axel with a clothesline, Miz tags in and he attacks Matt with some more strikes. Matt eventually drops Miz and Jeff tags in, Jeff immediately cleans house on the opposing team before getting a near fall on Dallas. Jeff would eventually catch Dallas with a Whisper In The Wind for a near fall, Jeff goes back to the top rope and Axel knocks him off. Dallas nails Jeff with a rope assisted neck breaker for a near fall, Jordan hits the ring and he knocks Miz out of the ring.

Jeff nails Dallas with a Twist Of fate for a near fall, Jordan hits the ring and he takes out and interfering Miz. Matt hits Dallas with another Twist Of Fate, Jeff lands a swanton bomb for the three count.

Winners: Jason Jordan & Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff)

Raw GM Kurt Angle is in the ring while a bunch of security guards are outside of the ring, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman make their way to the ring first. Heyman grabs a microphone and introduces himself and Lesnar, Heyman says what will happen tonight is essentially a prison fight. Heyman talks about how his client is angry at Angle for making a Fatal 4 Way Match at WWE Summerslam, Heyman talks about all three of Lesnar’s opponents at the event. Heyman then says the conspiracy happens at WWE Summerslam and makes a UFC reference, or Lesnar walks away with the gold on Sunday Night.

Samoa Joe eventually makes his way to the ring with a microphone, Joe says he doesn’t fear Lesnar and he will take the title from him. Braun Strowman would then make his way to the ring, Strowman says that he is always the last man standing. Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring and he immediately nails Joe with a spear, Strowman then hits Reigns with a power slam. Strowman and Lesnar face off until security gets in the ring, Lesnar and Strowman start beating up the security guards. Lesnar and Strowman go face to face again until other wrestlers come out to break everything up as the show comes to an end.
