Good evening Fight Fans, and welcome to our coverage of tonight's edition of WWE Smackdown on FOX! We hope you enjoy the show and will hang around afterwards for the post-show podcast!
-We open the show with Elias in the ring where he plays a song about the year and the coming year all the while insulting Bayley, Lashley and Shane McMahon before Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring for the triple threat number one contender match. Roman Reigns' music hits and distracts the men carrying Corbin to the ring for the match before they fall over and Roman attacks Corbin from behind as Daniel looks on in the ring before Corbin escapes through the crowd as we go to commercial as Roman is surrounded by officials.
-We come back to Corbin in the back where he tries to get the triple threat match postponed before New Day comes out to the ring for their match as we get this week's Progressive Match Flo.
New Day & Braun Strowman vs Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura & Sami Zayn
Braun and Cesaro start things off before Kofi dropkicks Shinsuke and clotheslines him over the top rope and Sami grabs his ankle when he teases a dive. Shinsuke hits a backstabber and Sami tags himself in before tossing Kofi out of the ring and Cesaro sends Kofi over the announce table with a running uppercut at ringside as we go to commercial.
Cesaro tries to keep Kofi away from his corner as we come back to the action before Kofi hits a missile dropkick and Shinsuke rushes in and drags Kofi to his corner. Cesaro comes back in and drops Kofi for two before Kofi hits a jawbreaker and Cesaro drops Kofi with a running uppercut before Shinsuke knees Kofi in the side of locks in a rear chin lock. Kofi gets to his feet and Shinsuke locks in an abdominal stretch and mocks E before knocking him off of the apron and Kofi drops Shinsuke. Shinsuke gets the tag to Cesaro who runs in and stomps Kofi before Sami pulls Braun off of the apron and Cesaro hits a baseball slide that sends him into the barricade. Shinsuke, Cesaro and Sami triple team Kofi for a near fall that E breaks up before E sends Cesaro out of the ring and Kofi hits a meteora.
Braun comes in and runs everyone over once he's legal before Braun chases Sami around ringside and Shinsuke drops him. Shinsuke tosses Braun back into the ring before Braun turns him inside out when he goes for a Kinshasa and Sami slides Shinsuke a baking pan. Kofi then takes the pan from Shinsuke and hits him with it from behind before Braun hits a running powerslam for the pin and the win.
Winner: Braun Strowman and New Day defeat Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro and Sami Zayn via pinfall when Braun pins Shinsuke with a running powerslam.
-Braun dances with New Day after the match before we go backstage and see the doctor talking to the backstage interviewer as we go to commercial.
-We get a recap of what happened earlier tonight between Corbin and Reigns before we're told that the triple threat match will now be a singles match with a shot at the Universal Championship on the line in tonight's main event.
-We go backstage to Fire & Desire where Sonya is signing magazines before Otis shows up and gives Mandy Rose a fruitcake.
Carmella vs Mandy Rose
They lock up before Carmella drives Mandy into the corner for a clean break and Mandy whips her into the corner before dropkicking her. Mandy drops Carmella a with a knee for two before locking in a straight jacket hold and drops Carmella once she gets to her feet. Carmella hits a huricanrrana and a dropkick for two before Mandy sends her face first into the bottom turnbuckle and they exchange near falls off of a series of pin attempts. Carmella then superkicks Mandy for the pin and the win.
Winner: Carmella defeats Mandy Rose via pinfall with a superkick.
-We get a promo by Sheamus who is set to return soon.
WWE Universal Championship Number One Contender Match
Daniel Bryan vs The Miz
Daniel and Miz exchange standing switches before Miz drops Daniel with a shoulder block and they exchange wrist locks before Daniel drops Miz with a kick to the chest. Daniel kicks Miz in the corner before Miz sends him out onto the apron and sweeps his legs before dropping him across the barricade. They then run into each other with a running cross body before they're both attacked by Corbin's henchmen and the referee throws the match out.
Winner: No contest due to double interference.
-After the match Corbin is interviewed before he's attacked by Miz and Bryan before running off and they give chase as we go to commercial.
-We're told that the triple threat match is back on for tonight's main event before Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross come out for A Moment of Bliss and she introduces her guest Lacey Evans. Alexa talks about what happened last week between Lacey, her daughter and Sasha Banks before showing a recap on the big screen and Lacey gets up and leaves to the ring to await Sasha and Bayley. Dana Brooke's music hits and Bayley and Sasha come out with Dana and beat on her before all four women brawl and they're separated by officials as we go to commercial.
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke
Lacey rushes Sasha and knocks her off of the apron before Bayley attacks her and Lacey comes back before Dana hits a hand spring back elbow in the corner. Sasha comes in and beats on Dana in the corner before setting her on the top turnbuckle and Dana counters a suplex into one of her own for two. Sasha slams Dana down by her hair before the referee has to keep Lacey out of the ring after Sasha slaps her and Bayley stomps Dana in the corner while Sasha mocks Lacey. Bayley and Sasha isolate Dana before Lacey gets the tag and drops Bayley repeatedly before taking out Sasha at ringside and hitting a slingshot elbow drop. Lacey hits a moonsault for a near fall that Sasha breaks up before Lacey chases Sasha and Bayley hits a belly to belly suplex for a near fall that Dana breaks up.
Sasha then sends Lacey into the ring post before Sasha locks in the Banks Statement on Dana for the tap and the win.
Winner: Sasha Banks & Bayley defeat Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans via submission when Sasha taps Dana with the Banks Statement.
-After the match Mandy Rose is backstage before Dolph shows up and insults the cake before he steps on it and Corbin shows up and they leave an upset Mandy as we go to commercial.
-We get an extended video package for Ali before we see Otis backstage where he finds the cake destroyed and he's visibly unsettled.
WWE Universal Championship Number One Contender Triple Threat Match
Daniel Bryan vs Baron Corbin vs The Miz
Miz and Daniel double up on Corbin before Corbin rolls out of the ring and Miz rolls Daniel up for two before they exchange strikes. Daniel hits a suicide dive and takes out Corbin before sending Miz into the ring post and hitting a diving knee off of the apron before Corbin sends Daniel into the time keeper's area. Corbin drops Miz with a stiff forearm before sending him into the ring post and drops him when Miz tries to attack him when he is busy posing for the crowd before tossing him back in the ring. Daniel comes in and Corbin drops him with a back elbow for two before Daniel catches Corbin coming in and Miz hits a neckbreaker before Corbin sends Daniel out of the ring and hits Miz with the Deep Six. Daniel then hits a missile dropkick as we go to commercial.
Miz and Daniel exchange pin attempts before Miz hits a DDT and kicks Corbin in the corner before locking in a figure four before Daniel hits a diving headbutt and gets a near fall with the submission still locked in before locking in a cross face that Miz breaks up after breaking the hold. Corbin sends Daniel out of the ring and hits Miz with the End of Days for a near fall that Daniel breaks up before Daniel hits a flying knee and Dolph Ziggler shows up and superkicks Daniel. Roman then breaks up the pin and takes out Corbin and Dolph at ringside as we go to commercial.
Miz is in control of Daniel as we come back to the action before Daniel hits a spider suplex and Miz crotches him on the top turnbuckle before trying to break his knee. Miz kicks Daniel in the chest before Daniel catches a kick and slaps Miz before kicking Miz in the chest and Miz catches a kick and drives his knees into the knee of Daniel. Miz slams the knee of Daniel into the mat and snaps his leg before Daniel kicks him out onto the apron and Daniel hits a flying armbar. Daniel transitions into a cross face before Miz turns it into a back slide for a near fall and Miz counters a flying knee into the Skull Crushing Finale for a near fall. Miz then locks in a figure four before they exchange strikes in the position and Daniel locks in a variation of the LeBell Lock for the tap and the win.
Winner: Daniel Bryan defeats The Miz and Baron Corbin via submission when he submits Miz with the LeBell Lock.
-After the match Bray Wyatt appears on the big screen and congratulates Daniel before he talks about Daniel's title match against The Fiend at the Royal Rumble before Daniel celebrates as we go off the air.
