WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio took a special trip to NXT.
Mysterio appeared via satellite on the July 1 and announced that he would accompany Dragon Lee to the ring for his match against NXT North American Champion "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio on August 8. Rey made it clear that instead of supporting his son, he would be rooting on the man who he called the future of lucha libre.
The legend appeared multiple times on the August 8 episode of NXT. He hyped Lee up ahead of the bout and later introduced him as the next NXT North American Champion.

Rey then stayed at ringside for the duration of the match. Unfortunately for Lee, the presence of Rhea Ripley proved to be costly. She interfered at the end of the bout and helped Dominik score the win, as she hit the challenger with her WWE Women's World Championship. Dominik then pinned Lee with a Michinoku Driver. Rey confronted his son after the bell and got into a heated confrontation with him and Ripley.
Lyra Valkyria came to the ring and took the fight to Ripley. Lee then helped clear the ring of the Judgment Day members. Rey, Valkyria, and Lee stood tall to end the show.

During NXT, Rey also appeared in backstage segments with Roxanne Perez and Thea Hail. He gave both young stars advice, and he encouraged Hail to believe in herself.
