Rhea Ripley is headed for a showdown with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. Ripley rose to stardom at the end of 2019 with a big Survivor Series weekend that included pinfall victories over Charlotte Flair, Shayna Baszler, and Sasha Banks. She won the NXT Women's Championship on the Dec. 18 episode of NXT.
According to reports, which were confirmed by Triple H, Vince McMahon made the call to put Ripley in a high profile position at WrestleMania 36. Speaking to Alex McCarthy of TalkSport, Ripley reacted to the news of Vince putting his trust in her.
"I don’t talk too much about backstage stuff. I don’t really mind, as long as I’m getting booked [laughs]. But I did see that on social media and I wasn’t sure if it was true or not, but I did see that Triple H said it was Vince McMahon’s idea and that makes me feel amazing.
"To be able to have someone who’s run this business for a long time and seen everything come and go, every single different thing there is to see and to have him believe in me and what I’m doing is incredible. And it brings me pride that I know that I’m doing my job right. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. I’ve loved wrestling since such a young age and to have someone who owns the biggest wrestling company in the world trust me to be one of the next faces is just insane! I’m all for it – I’m ready to go," she stated.
The WrestleMania 36 bout between Ripley and Charlotte became official at NXT TakeOver: Portland when Charlotte, the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble winner, selected Ripley as her opponent.
In a different interview, Ripley gave her thoughts on Bianca Belair potentially being added to the WrestleMania 36 match. You can find her comments by clicking here.
