Speaking on Casual Conversations, Starks was asked for his goals in 2023.

"My main goal for this year is to really carve out my own type of...I want to be so fulfilled in myself. What I mean is, I want to be fulfilled creatively, I want to be fulfilled in the ring, on the mic, I want to be fulfilled as a person, on this television show, that has stepped up and is now on another level and he should be talked with those other people on that level. I would love to win the TNT Championship, if I don't get to the AEW Championship first. Those are things I want to do. Stepping out of the wrestling stuff, I want to star in a TV show, I want to star in a movie. These are things that I want, that I'm going to get, because I deserve it. I'm going to make sure that I get it. Regardless, nothing is going to stop me," said Starks.

Starks is a former FTW Champion, but has not challenged for the AEW TNT Championship since his first match in AEW where he answered the open challenge of Cody Rhodes in June 2020.

Samoa Joe is the reigning AEW TNT Champion and he is set to clash with Wardlow on the December 28 episode of AEW Dynamite.
