Athena agreed to defend her ROH Women's Championship against Thekla at the January 13th STARDOM event in Korakuen Hall.
Thekla and Athena teamed to defeat Tay Melo and Mina Shirakawa at STARDOM on January 3rd. After the bout, Thekla asked for an ROH Women's Title match, but Athena denied the bout.
At NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty, Thekla cost Athena the International Women's Cup, pulling the referee out of the ring as Athena was pinning Willow Nightingale. Momo Watanabe went on to win the bout, pinning Athena.
