This would mark Reigns' first defense of the Undisputed WWE Universal Title since he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to unify the WWE Championship with the WWE Universal Championship.

Reigns is very bothered that he's being bothered by Riddle.

On-screen Reigns and Riddle have been feuding over the course of a couple of months since RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) began engaging with The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) over the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Off-screen, Riddle made headlines following WWE SummerSlam 2021 when he called out Reigns for referring to himself as "legitimate needle moving." Riddle confirmed that he got heat for those comments and that Orton helped him write an apology letter to Reigns.
