Roman Reigns talks about preferring quality over quantity as it pertains to World Championship reigns in pro wrestling.
Roman Reigns has been the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for over 1,300 days. Before the days of "The Tribal Chief," there was a heavy emphasis put on the amount of time someone had captured a World Championship as opposed to focusing on a clear definitive championship reign.
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Roman Reigns explained why, to him, it is more about quality than quantity. Roman also says he always knew he could be great in pro wrestling and always had a passion for it.
"I’ve always known it. I’ve always been striving for it. I’ve always had this obsession for it. I was born in 85. When you’re growing up in the 90s and you have Michael Jordan, there is this mentality. It was different times, back in the day. I’m not trying to get all old school on everybody, but it was tougher. It’s a tougher mentality than it is today. That was just something that conditioned me to chase it and want to be on a different level than everybody else," he said.
Roman Reigns even opened up about John Cena, currently the man who holds the record for most World Championship wins to occur specifically in WWE with 16. Roman says that he does consider John Cena to be one of the greatest of all time but that the quantity of his WWE World Championship reigns doesn't compare to the quality of the current run that Roman is on.
"I don’t take anything away from anybody. What John has done, as far as generations come, that is GOAT-level stuff, but for me, it’s always been about quality, not quantity. John has a lot of title reigns, but he doesn’t have a title reign that can compare what I’ve done in the last four years," he said. "This quality that I’ve put on display, it speaks for itself. The business backs everything that has happened. It’s made this place more lucrative than it's ever been, it’s made this place attractive. My reign has gone through the most crazy and turbulent time in WWE history. That says a lot. I will always take the quality of this run over going 14, 15, 16 times."
