Sabu gives a pitch for his final match.
ECW has made its presence felt on AEW television more than ever in 2023 with Sabu and Rob Vab Dam making cameo appearances.
Tony Khan has never hid his affinity for ECW when he was growing up, and has paid tribute to the promotion by utilizing the FTW Championship, which Taz introduced in ECW and AEW. HOOK is the reigning FTW Champion and has teamed with RVD multiple times this year.
Speaking to Title Match Network, Sabu was asked about RVD's appearances in AEW.
"I thought it was awesome. I thought it was awesome. Would have been better if he came out with me. He came out, and he had a surprise, and it ended with all of us. I wanted him to win the FTW belt, give it to me, and then in my final match, I lose it back to HOOK. I didn't say it to nobody, that's just my thought. I like HOOK, he's a good guy, a good kid, very respectful. Needs to gain some weight, of course, and experience, but I think he has a good future. It would be my pleasure to help him," he said.
Sabu said that the heat between him and Taz was exaggerated to make things more real in ECW, and that they took a picture together when Sabu was at AEW in May.
Sabu appeared on the May 24 episode of AEW Dynamite and was present at AEW Double or Nothing.
