Sami Callihan Says He And Eddie Edwards Never Had Proper Blowoff Before Barbed Wire Massacre

This Saturday at IMPACT Hard To Kill, Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards will engage in a Barbed Wire Massacre bout.

The rivalry between Edwards and Callihan dates back to 2018 when Callihan smashed a baseball bat into the face of Edwards. Since then, the two men have been attached to each other in IMPACT, but they never had a proper singles bout to end the feud according to Callihan.

Matt Hardy: 'Speedball' Mike Bailey Is An Ideal Fit For AEW

"We never truly had our blowoff," said Callihan on Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore podcast"Our original blowoff was a cinematic fight in the woods. That was brutal and ahead of its time -- IMPACT has been doing that cinematic stuff before everyone for years. Our entire storyline, we've come together and split apart, have come to this one moment. It's a long story. People say, 'We need longer storytelling,' this is a story that's been being built for three years and now it's going to blow off in one of the most brutal matches in IMPACT history and possibly the most-watched IMPACT pay-per-view of all-time. We're not doing an old school Barbed Wire Massacre. We have to be bigger and badder than every barbed wire match before."

When discussing his relationship with Edwards, Callihan said, "What goes on behind the scenes is a lot bigger than what goes on in the ring It's no secret, me and Eddie Edwards do not get along, but we're both professional wrestlers. You can't tell me, deep down, that both of us going into what might be our last match against each other for a very long time, that there isn't going to be cheap shots and people trying to get over."

Callihan has competed in two barbed wire matches in IMPACT history. He teamed with oVe to battle LAX in Barbed Wire Massacre III in January 2018 and faced Jimmy Havoc in a Barbed Wire Baseball match in September 2018. Saturday will mark Edwards' first barbed wire match in IMPACT.

Fightful will have live coverage of IMPACT Hard To Kill beginning at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 16.
