On the March 11 episode of WWE Raw, Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, Chad Gable, and Bronson Reed clashed in a high-stakes Gauntlet Match, where the winner of the bout would earn a shot at WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 40.

Ricochet and JD McDonagh started the bout. They battled back and forth, and Ricochet took control with a Death Valley Driver on the apron. McDonagh grounded him, but Ricochet rallied and eliminated the Judgment Day member with a Shooting Star Press.

Bronson Reed entered the match, and Ricochet dove onto him. Ricochet kept up the attack, but Reed overpowered him and eliminated him with the Tsunami.

Sami Zayn was the next entrant, and he brought the fight to Zayn as well. Reed's power advantage could not be denied, and he took control, but Zayn stunned him with a sunset flip powerbomb that kept him down for the three count. Infuriated, Reed attacked Zayn while Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to the ring.

Nakamura tried to capitalize with a Kinshasha, but Zayn countered. The longtime rivals went back and forth, and Zayn eliminated Nakamura with a Helluva Kick.

Chad Gable was the last entrant, and despite Zayn's exhaustion, he delivered a valiant performance against Gable. Gable hit him with a suplex off the top rope and targeted Zayn's ankle by using an ankle lock multiple times. Zayn fired back with an Exploder Suplex and a Helluva Kick. They kept battling, and Gable went back to the ankle lock, but Zayn rolled him up and scored the pin.

As a result, Sami Zayn earned the right to challenge Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40.
