Samoa Joe shares his thoughts on AEW Collision.
AEW's third television show, AEW Collision, will premiere on Saturday, June 17. The show will give AEW two more hours of television time, and it will feature at least some talent who haven't been featured on AEW programming recently, including Thunder Rosa and Andrade El Idolo.
Speaking with Evan Mack on The Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Joe was asked about the addition of AEW Collision to the company's content lineup. Mack brought up the argument that the Saturday night slot is a difficult spot, and Joe explained that the television model is different now. He made it clear that he enjoys Saturday nights as a slot for wrestling. Joe then described how he sees AEW Collision as an opportunity for AEW to give some members of the roster who haven't gotten a lot of opportunities lately the chance to be featured on TV.
“Obviously it's exciting to add another show to the lineup for AEW. Doing Saturday night wrestling, I mean, obviously if the TV model was anything like it has been in the past, I would kind of believe some of those comments. But it’s a very different world and a very different environment. I think Saturday nights are a really great night. I’ve always enjoyed events that I’ve seen on Saturday nights. To have the opportunity to kind of give a lot of the AEW roster to kind of give a lot of the AEW roster that maybe doesn’t get enough time throughout the week and showcase a lot of the talent that we’ve had, and I think that’s a valid criticism. When you look at the AEW roster, you see the tremendous, talented athletes, there’s almost not enough time to see them all. I think AEW Collision will be able to definitely expand the fan experience as far as the wrestlers that you get to see," Joe said.
When asked whether having more shows creates more opportunities, Joe stated that he believed that was the case. He noted that fans have been saying they want to see different talents on AEW TV, and having another show will give the company the chance to put more stars in the spotlight while also highlighting others as well.
“More shows create more opportunities, absolutely. I think this is definitely an example. I think for years, people have been saying they wanted to see more and different talents on AEW, and some talents have more of a chance to be showcased in a longer format, and I think Collision is gonna definitely offer up those opportunities, as well as bringing your favorite AEW stars to one more night a week," he said.
Mack playfully asked Joe whether he had any information about anyone in Chicago who might show up for the premiere of AEW Collision, and he seemingly hinted at CM Punk's rumored presence on the show. Joe responded by stating that he knows he'll be there himself, and anyone who has an issue can be there too.
“I know I’m gonna be there. Anybody else in Chicago wants to show up and got an issue, they can be there too, but we’ll find out," Joe said.
