Saraya discusses the process of getting cleared, taking care of her neck in the lead-up to her return match, and how she was taken care of after her match at AEW Full Gear.
After over 1,000 days, Saraya returned to the wrestling ring at AEW Full Gear with a win over Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. With the injury that led to her retirement being so severe, and a return to the ring being something she never thought she would get to experience, Saraya is taking all of the precautions necessary
Speaking on a media scrum following AEW Full Gear, Saraya addressed the procedure she went through in order to get cleared and reiterated that she wants to take it slow at first.
"I feel fantastic. Tony really takes care of us, down to a T he was like, I’m not going to let you get back in the ring until you’re 100% ready to go. ‘I promise you, I got this, I promise you.’ We did MRIs, CT Scans, X-Rays, and my neck was 100% ready to go. Even I was shocked, I didn’t realize it would be 100%. With Tony, he’s very understanding when it comes to injuries. We said, ‘I want to take it slow coming back. I don’t want to rush back in like I did the last time’ where it was a lot of work straight away. He was so understanding. I really appreciate him. I’m happy I got to do this in AEW, I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time. It felt very cool that I got to do that here today," she said.
Saraya also explained the procedures she underwent before her match, saying that she had heat, electric, and pressure point therapy before she wrestled, and the medical staff at AEW have offered to do that for her every week, even if she's not wrestling.
"Before the match, they worked on my neck, heated it, put those electric pads on. Then they did all the pressure point stuff and they said, ‘we’ll do this every single time you’re here, even when you’re not wrestling.’ After, they checked on me to make sure I was okay. They massaged it a little, and made sure everything was good. ‘I promise you guys, I’m so good.’ Everyone is totally cautious, they want to be. I’m 100% fantastic and I feel good.
Saraya was injured back in 2017 in a match with Sasha Banks and recently stated that Sasha Banks is one of the first people she messaged when she received the go-ahead to wrestle again.
