Rollins looks back at his match against AJ Styles.
Coming out of WrestleMania 35, AJ Styles was the first individual to get a shot at Seth Rollins' Universal Championship at a pay-per-view and their match took place at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view on May 19th in Hartford, Connecticut. The match went nearly twenty minutes and was well received by those who viewed it in person and those who watched it from their own personal spaces. There was one point during the match when Seth was setting up for the "Curb Stomp" and AJ countered it into a "Styles Clash". Rollins recounted that moment during an interview with 'The National' and credited "The Phenomenal One" for being able to pull it off.
"Maybe I got to think it out (the Curb Stomp) a little bit as people are starting to counter more and more. It was a pretty cool moment. They nearly always come out of nowhere. When you counter it like that it is a really special feeling. You feel the energy come up from the crowd. It is a strange feeling but it almost gives you the oomph to kick out after whatever happened." He continued, "That was a big one and kudos to AJ for being able to pull it off. He is still a strong dude and forty-something years old and I was happy I was able to withstand that Styles Clash and come away victorious after that."
Seth Rollins is set to defend his Universal Title against Baron Corbin at Stomping Grounds on June 23rd and there are a number of challengers on the horizon if Rollins is to retain including names from the NXT brand. Rollins thought about the possibilities of mixing it up with a Johnny Gargano, an Adam Cole or Velveteen Dream.
"Adam Cole is someone I have never been in the ring," he said. "Gargano would almost be an AJ Styles situation again. We wrestled a decade ago and haven’t touched each other since. You have got Velveteen Dream who is always intriguing and Matt Riddle would also be an intriguing match-up, or an old foe like a Roderick Strong or a Kassius Ohno. There is a ton of talent down in NXT just waiting to strike so there are tons of match-ups that I would be looking forward to if the opportunity came about."
As mentioned, Rollins' next title defense is taking place at Stomping Grounds and to get a look at the updated match card for that show, head over to Fightful's "events" page.
