Seth Rollins says that the upcoming match with CM Punk on the January 6 episode of Raw is his WrestleMania moment.
CM Punk and Seth Rollins will make history when they headline the first ever WWE Raw episode streaming on Netflix. Taking place on January 6, Rollins and CM Punk will unload years of personal animosity on one another when they meet in the squared circle. At one point, this match was discussed as a potential World Heavyweight Championship match for Wrestlemania XL in 2024. However, injuries to CM Punk prevented that. Now, with WrestleMania right around the corner, Rollins says he's not interested in dragging out their issues to settle the score in April. For him, the debut of Monday Night Raw on Netflix is his WrestleMania moment.
Seth Rollins explained his mindset during a recent interview with Jackie Redmond that was released in full on WWE's YouTube channel.
"There's no question about it, it's going to be a fight. I mean, this is the biggest fight in our sport right now. This is the biggest fight in our industry. A lot of people will say, 'Oh, Seth, maybe, maybe you push this to WrestleMania,' but, Nah, man, this is my WrestleMania, and I need it now," he explained. "After Survivor Series this year and I saw him hand in hand with Roman Reigns, like that was like enough for me. Enough is enough. Like I've let it go on for a year. You know, we were on a collision course. He gets sidetracked. I go in a different direction. We come back to it. That visual of him next to Roman, Roman's finger in the air, and Punk doing this stupid little Go To Sleep thing, I just wanted to throw the remote through the TV. I was so viscerally internally destroyed. I was like, 'That's it. I can't wait. I don't want to wait anymore. I want the world to see it. I want them to see it.' This is perfect. This is Netflix, the debut. The world will be watching this match. To answer your question, I don't know what it's going to look like. You're going to see a side of me that no one's ever seen. No pun intended, it's going to be Raw. It's going to be visceral. It's going to be violent. I've got to extract this demon from my soul. I've got to get it out of me. I've got to cut this cancer out of my brain, or I'm going down and I can't handle it."
Sami Zayn recently stated that he had heard rumblings of this match actually being slated for this year's WrestleMania. Read his full comments here.
