Shane Haste Confirms He Signed New Deal With NJPW, 'Why Would I Want To Leave?'

Shane Haste confirms that he is staying with NJPW.

Shane Haste, once known as Slapjack in WWE, has been competing for NJPW since 2022. During his time with the company, Haste has won multiple titles; he and Mikey Nicholls currently hold the IWGP Tag Team Championship and the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship. Fightful Select reported that Haste's contract was set to expire in June, but the two sides reached an agreement that will keep him with the company.

In an interview with Mark O'Brien for WrestleMobs (via Bodyslam.net), Shane Haste confirmed that he had signed a new contract with NJPW.

“Yeah, with other options out there and whatnot, I don’t know. I love Japan. New Japan treats me so well. Seeing how other friends were getting treated at other companies, it just didn’t make things seem very appealing to me, compared to just how well New Japan look after me, how accommodating they are, and just the trajectory that TMDK is going at the moment there, it’s like why would I want to leave?" Haste said.

Haste was asked to comment on the biggest difference between NJPW and WWE regarding the backstage environment, and he stated that it was "chill", as they all just did their thing.

"It’s just so chill… we do our wrestling thing, and then we can just hang out. Everyone’s normal. No one’s trying to steal anyone’s job. The freedom and the fun of it all… It’s just easier when you have your mates to bounce off of," Haste said.

Haste and Nicholls recently said that they were the best peggers in wrestling. Check out their comments here.
