Shaquille O'Neal seems to be getting serious about the potential of stepping inside the ring against Cody Rhodes.
For years now, Shaq has teased stepping inside the squared circle. The Big Show has often talked about a planned WrestleMania match against Shaquille O'Neal that never came to fruition. However, it appears that Shaq’s interests have gone from The Big Show to one of the stars of TBS’ “Go-Big Show.”
Since the emergence of Jade Cargill on the episode of AEW Dynamite following Full Gear 2020, it appeared that Cody Rhodes was going to have to look over his shoulder and worried about a potential budding issue with Shaq, who is interested in fighting him according to the debuting Cargill.
The focus quickly shifted to Cody Rhodes’ wife, Brandi, who not only got physical with Cargill but through a glass of water in the face of Shaquille O'Neal as tensions continued to build. However, any interaction involving Brandi is now off the table as she and Cody Rhodes are expecting their first child this year.
Cody Rhodes appeared on the January 27 Dynamite to respond to Shaq teasing a match for the month of March. Cody Rhodes then announced that the plan was for him and his wife to face Jade and Shaq at AEW Revolution on March 7. Arn Anderson would introduce Red Velvet as a plan B and Velvet made it clear she had a desire to step into the role that was laid out for Brandi Rhodes.
Speaking with Sam Fishman to promote the Shaq Bowl, Shaq made it clear he had no desire to appear in a Royal Rumble this year but would say that if Cody Rhodes continued to run his mouth, he was going to step into the ring to take care of this situation once and for all.
“Royal Rumble, no. But there is this guy in AEW that's been talking noise, a guy by the name of Cody Rhodes. He has one more thing to me before I jump in the ring and beat him up. Cody, if you're listening to this, keep your mouth shut, or else!”
During the #ShaqBowl media call @SHAQ mentioned how he won’t be in the #RoyalRumble. But he did have strong words for @AEW’s @CodyRhodes. pic.twitter.com/kWOOWgUtAg
