Shawn Michaels would be a rich man if he got a nickel for every superkick.
Michael popularized the superkick during his time in wrestling, using it to finish off opponents and dubbing the move the Sweet Chin Music. In 2022, the superkick is rarely used as a finisher, but now more often thrown as a strike at any point during the match.
Speaking on Culture State, Michaels was asked if he got royalties every time the move was used.
"I'd be doing really okay," he said. "I take it as a compliment. I can remember when I first broke into the wrestling business, a lot of old timers said 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.' That's certainly the way I take it. There were people that inspired me. I've always been into the romance of this line of work. I'm fortunate and I appreciate the fact that something that I did has had a positive effect on this business. Would I mind getting a nickel for every time one of those things happened? Of course I wouldn't, but I don't think that's realistic. I'll just be flattered from a distance."
When a host joked that Michaels could make a penny for every superkick, Michaels laughed and said, "I'd still be doing okay, wouldn't I?"
Michaels is currently in charge of NXT, developing television and talent for the brand.
