Shawn Spears is officially All Elite.
Despite appearing at All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing in the Casino Battle Royale, Shawn Spears (formerly Tye Dillinger in WWE) had not officially signed with AEW. That changed today as Spears was announced as the newest AEW signing on the latest episode of AEW Road to Fyter Fest.
During the episode, a vignette aired with Spears questioning whether or not he made the right choice, alluding to his decision to request his release from WWE. Ultimately, he decided this was the right choice for him. Cody Rhodes and Nik Sobic (AEW VP Business Operations) were seen watching the video package. Sobic believes that Spears is going to be a star. Cody agreed before saying that Spears could potentially be a player-coach and eventually a coach for AEW.
Spears asked for his release from WWE on Feb. 19 with a public message posted on social media. He was granted his release days later. After completing his 90-day no-compete clause, he was announced for AEW Double or Nothing. He stated he was a "last minute addition" to the match and that he had no written contract with the company but that AEW "felt like home" to him.
