Shawn Spears Says Worrying About Ratings Is Above His Pay Grade, Reveals He Still Watches NXT

Shawn Spears reveals he still watches NXT.

Before he busted open Cody Rhodes with a steel chair in AEW, Shawn Spears was in NXT as Tye Dillinger, “The Perfect 10.” Dillinger made a huge impact on the NXT brand and was one of the most popular superstars with his love for the number 10.

After having a stellar run in NXT that included TakeOver bouts with Bobby Roode and a steel cage match against Eric Young, Dillinger made his debut in the 2017 Royal Rumble at the appropriately-suited number 10 entry. His time on the WWE main roster was less-than-stellar, leading to him leaving WWE for AEW in 2019.

Speaking with Sportskeeda, Shawn Spears revealed that he still watches NXT and couldn't be happier to see the state of professional wrestling on Wednesday nights.

“I spent a great deal of time in NXT and I still watch NXT, I watch it on DVR. I watch AEW and if I’m not around, I’ll DVR AEW as well, so I watch all wrestling across all boards as best I can,” said Spears. “Ratings do matter, but they matter more to Corporate Heads and things that dictate matters above my pay grade. For me personally, all that matters is that on Wednesday nights there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people talking about professional wrestling. In this day and age, that is a beautiful thing.”

Outside of the ring, Shawn Spears runs the Florida-based Flatbacks training school with NXT Superstar Tyler Breeze and he is married to WWE Superstar Peyton Royce.
