Shelton Benjamin still has one major bucket list item to check off in his wrestling career: winning a World Championship.
Shelton Benjamin has won several titles in wrestling. He has been the WWE Intercontinental Champion, WWE United States Champion, and a multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion. However, during his different stints in WWE, he never captured any of the WWE World Championship belts that were active at the time.
Now, he is starting fresh in AEW alongside MVP in the Hurt Syndicate, but he still desires to become a world champion. Benjamin spoke about his championship aspirations during an appearance on the Gabby AF podcast.
"When it boils down to it, no matter what I’m doing, I’m definitely in it to be champion. I also get it; sometimes it’s not your time, and the story is not about you, but no matter what I’m doing, I’m in it to win championships. Any title. Do I want it to be centered around me? Yes, I love the spotlight. I’ve always wanted the spotlight, but the people in charge have different plans, and when you’re working for WWE, you go with whatever their plan is. That’s okay. I can accept that. Make no mistake, I still want a world championship, and I want every accolade I can stack on my resume. I want to be champ. Period."
Benjamin was once known as "The Gold Standard." Now that he is MVP's "Standard of Excellence," his eyes are set on gold again. First, he has to defeat Swerve Strickland on AEW Fright Night Dynamite. Learn more about that match here.
