Shinsuke Nakamura Comments On Possibly Reuniting With Hiroshi Tanahashi During His Retirement Tour

Shinsuke Nakamura can't promise a Hiroshi Tanahashi reunion.

2025 will be Hiroshi Tanahashi's final year as a wrestler, as 'The Ace' has plans to have his final match at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January 2026.

Throughout the year, many fans are expecting Tanahashi to either face or team with some of his historic rivals like Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, and Katsuyori Shibata.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports in December, Nakamura first commented on 'The Ace' retiring at just 48 years old.

"In today's world of professional wrestling, retiring at 48 years old may be a little early, but we cannot measure the damage Tanahashi has endured, and he must also have responsibilities as president."

If you're expecting Shinsuke Nakamura to make an appearance in NJPW to face or team with Tanahashi, you might be out of luck.

"I don't know, I don't know. They say 'never say never'. I hear people saying that, but when you think about the reality of it... You can say whatever you want about emotions, but you have to clear the reality. There are probably some things I shouldn't say, and I can't promise anything. I can't take responsibility for that."

Nakamura faced The Great Muta in one of his final singles matches at Pro Wrestling NOAH's New Year event in January 2023. Furthermore, Nakamura returned to the promotion earlier this year to face Ulka Sasaki.

Tanahashi will have his last match in the United Sates at NJPW Windy City Riot in April. Learn more by clicking here.
