STARDOM, NJPW Announce IWGP Women's Championship

At Friday's STARDOM 2022 Strategy Meeting, it was announced that the Joshi promotion and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) are creating the IWGP Women's Championship.

The goal of the IWGP Women's Championship will be for the title to be defended in Japan as well as the United States on NJPW events. As part of the announcement, it was also revealed that the inaugural IWGP Women's Champion will be crowned at the first-ever NJPW x STARDOM show on November 20 at Ariake Arena. Bushiroad president Takaaki Kidani has said previously that he would like to see STARDOM main event the show so there's a possibility the main event could be to crown the first champion.

In addition to the champion being crowned at the joint show, it was also revealed that the IWGP Women's Championship is for NJPW events. There's a chance it will also be defended at STARDOM's biggest events as well.

Earlier this month, NJPW president Takami Ohbari announced at the NJPW 2022 Business Strategy Meeting that STARDOM would be competing in NJPW of America rings moving forward. The addition of the IWGP Women's Championship displays that the goal to get STARDOM to the United States is now in full effect.
