Swerve Strickland comments on re-signing with AEW.
In August 2024, Strickland inked a brand new deal with AEW, keeping him around with the company until at least 2029.
Since then, speculation surrounding Strickland's contract value has been rampant, with Fightful Select reporting that it was one of the biggest deals in company history.
While speaking with VladTV for a new interview, Strickland wouldn't reveal how much his contract is.
“Nope. Gotta speculate. Figure out what my value is."
When asked the deal was anywhere between seven to nine figures, Strickland chose to remain vague.
"It’s up there. It’s up there. It’s competing."
Then, Strickland was asked about WWE reaching out to him before he had re-signed with AEW.
“They reached out to my attorney. I don’t really have too much direct contact when it comes to that discussion. When I signed the contract, there’s a worked one, and then there’s a shoot one. I signed the worked one at Wembley, right before me and Bryan Danielson main-evented. Tony [Khan] decided to do it in the Queen’s box at Wembley where the Queen watches the games. He’s like, ‘This means something to be because this is one of the most proudest moments of my career.’ Because him and his dad own the Fulham soccer team over there. He’s like, ‘This is crazy because this is where we won our playoff game, and we were right here, and I cried with my dad and stuff, right here in this box, and now you’re the one signing this contract here. So this means something to me. I want it to mean something as big to you.’ We did that one. Then they put that out there on social media and announced it. They were like, I got a text from my representation. He’s like, ‘Apparently, they reached out, and they asked if that was a real re-signing. They’re like, is that real?’ I think it was a couple days later, there was a report that went out that said I was paid above market value. Because there was a couple of people that were on re-sign, that were supposed to be re-signed or on a contract thing with AEW, and we all got re-signed, but they were like, ‘Ugh, above market value.’ I was like, ‘Who are you to decide the market?’"
Elsewhere in the interview, Strickland recalled feeling like he was being "bullshitted around" during his time in NXT. Check out his full comments on the matter by clicking here.
