Swerve Strickland and Keith lee were the hottest tag team in 2022, using that momentum to capture the AEW Tag Team Championships at AEW Fyter Fest 2022.
Swerve and Lee not only had battles with the likes of The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) and the Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo), they also battled each other, leading to a bitter break up.
Speaking on the Mark Hoke Show, Swerve reflected on his pairing with Lee.
"Working with Keith at the time was a phenomenal experience. I bet a lot of fans wish we had the tag titles now. Not to take any credit away from FTR, they're still putting out bangers, especially what they did with Jay White and Juice Robinson, which is one of the best tag matches I've seen all year, it was incredible work. I feel like there is a flux in the tag team division that we're still working on. When me and Keith tagged earlier this year against Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy, people were like, 'this is nostalgia.' Nostalgia, it wasn't even a year ago. It was a little nostalgia and people were like, 'these guys guys, we didn't appreciate these guys when they were on top with the tag titles.' It was a very unique thing, bringing out the Rick Ross 'accusations' GIFs, Kevin Gates, doing these unique things. You didn't know what was going to happen between us because there was always something unique with our entrance. 'Are they on the same page?' There was always a story, not between our opponents, but the story was me and Keith, that's what made our tag team unique," said Swerve.
Swerve and Keith lost the AEW Tag Team Titles to The Acclaimed at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam 2022. The two would eventually split, but there was no singles match to settle the score.
