On the July 22 episode of AEW Saturday Collision, Taya Valkyrie got the better of Skye Blue in women's competition. After the match, Valkyrie challenged Britt Baker to a match, remarking that Baker recently defeated "an extra" on AEW Dynamite.
The match would quickly be made official for AEW Dynamite on July 26.
