Tommy Billington reflects his match with Dax Harwood.
Billington made his debut for All Elite Wrestling by facing Dax Harwood on the May 11, 2024 edition of AEW Collision. Although he didn't win the match, Billington impressed fans around the world and was eventually brought back to the promotion for a match with Konosuke Takeshita in July.
While speaking to the AEW Unrestricted podcast for a new interview, Billington reflected on the match with Harwood, saying that he couldn't have a better opponent for his first match in AEW.
“I couldn’t have chose a better first opponent to debut against with Dax being pretty much Bret’s number one fan. Bret sort of being my mentor all my life, I’ve known him since I’ve been around really. It all connected so well and I couldn’t have asked for a better time, opponent, venue. At one moment, yeah the nerves were kicking in because obviously Dynamite Kid Tom Billington, it’s a lot of big shoes to fill. I’m glad it was such short notice because I would not have liked a month to sit on it. I’m glad I got in there as soon as possible to show them what I’ve known all along. The audience’s energy, I’ve never felt energy like it. AEW is just on another level right now, it was such a blessing to get an opportunity to wrestle such a good wrestler, one of the best in the world if not the best right now, especially best tag team. To actually learn and get that experience is a truly one of a kind moment that I will cherish forever, you know?”
Elsewhere in the interview, Billington revealed that Bret Hart watched the match back and gave pointers to him and Harwood. Learn more about those comments here.
