Tony Khan Comments On 'Factual Statement' Tweet Following Vince McMahon's Retirement

On July 22, Vince McMahon announced he was retiring as CEO of WWE amid sexual harassment and hush money allegations.

Many wrestlers and wrestling personalities took to social media to comment on Vince's retirement, including AEW President Tony Khan.

Khan tweeted, "Thanks to you wrestling fans and your great support of @AEW, I’m grateful to now be the longest-tenured CEO in pro wrestling. Thank you very much to every single person who watches @AEWonTV! See you for Friday Night #AEWRampage on @TNTdrama @ 10pm ET/9pm CT/10pm PT *TONIGHT*!"

Fans were divided on the tweet with some enjoying the banter and others feeling it wasn't the right time to make the tweet.

When asked about the tweet during the ROH Death Before Dishonor media scrum, Khan said, "I was referencing AEW Rampage is on and just a fact. Of the big, major companies, of what I would consider The Big Three, I am the longest tenured. (NJPW President Takami) Ohbari and now there is a new CEO there (in WWE). If you consider it pro wrestling, then I think it's a fair statement. I thought it was a factual statement, a note to promote Rampage, but that's all it was. I can't say anything else about it. I hopefully, maybe got some eyeballs on Rampage and I really care about Rampage a lot."

Khan noted that he often references timely things, such as the movie that leads into AEW Rampage, as a way to promote AEW Rampage.
