Tony Khan talks using Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" for AEW Collision.
AEW's third weekly television show, AEW Collision, premiere on June 17. Ahead of the first episode, AEW CEO Tony Khan announced that Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" would be the theme song for the show.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Khan responded when the host noted that landing a deal for the song probably was not cheap. Khan noted that he wouldn't say that it was cheap, but it was the perfect fit for the show. He emphasized his excitement about using the song and stated that he enjoys working on deals for music.
"I’m not going to claim it was, but I will say it was the perfect fit for the show. I really wanted to get it. I love working with pro wrestling music rights. One thing we’ve done in AEW is bring a lot of awesome music into the world of pro wrestling on a weekly basis. You hear some legendary bands and songs every week on Dynamite, and now on AEW Collision, very fitting to have this amazing anthem, Elton John’s ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting’ as the official theme song of Collision. It’s a really big deal and I’m very excited about this great opening theme we were able to get and people seem to love the show open. It felt to me it would be the perfect song and I really enjoy working on those kinds of things," Khan said.
"Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" isn't the only classic song Khan has used for AEW recently. At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, he finally secured a deal for "The Final Countdown" by Europe, and Bryan Danielson entered to the song ahead of his match with Kazuchika Okada. Khan later noted that the song was as expensive as a wrestler's contract. Check out his comments here.
