Tony Khan comments on signing Mercedes Mone.
Mercedes Mone officially joined AEW on Wednesday, debuting at AEW Dynamite Big Business. Aside from a crowd shot at AEW All In, Mercedes hadn't been on wrestling television since she suffered an ankle injury in May 2023 against Willow Nightingale.
Mercedes bookended Big Business, debuting to start the show and helping Willow against Julia Hart & Skye Blue to close the evening.
“I think she’s one of the best wrestlers in the world,” Tony Khan told Maura Johnston of the Boston Globe. “I always want to get the best wrestlers in AEW, and that describes Mercedes perfectly.”
Mone said about her debut, which was heavily teased but never outright announced, “All of this was on pure speculation. Just a little bit of internet buzz where they put [’Bo$$ton,’ a nod to one of her world-conquering nicknames] on the Boston skyline, and fans were just speculating that it could possibly be me. They came from all over the world to see me debut tonight. It was unbelievable. Legit fans from London, UK, Mexico, Japan, and all over the United States came out. I am just over the moon.”
Fightful Select has more details regarding Mone's debut and how long she's been signed to AEW.
