Tony Khan Never Expected Jon Moxley Would Be Available For AEW Double Or Nothing

Fans were stunned at AEW Double or Nothing when Jon Moxley appeared to close the show. Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose in WWE), had left WWE in April after declining to sign a new contract and wasted no time jumping back into the mix by joining AEW in May.

It was reported in January 2019 that Moxley was unhappy in WWE and would not be signing a new contract. AEW had officially formed at the beginning of January and AEW President Tony Khan never believed someone like Moxley would be available to sign.

"Jon Moxley," Khan answered Dan Le Batard on South Beach Sessions when asked if there was something that had surprised him in AEW's short history. "I never in a million years was expecting that Jon Moxley would be wrestling for us this year. That he would have come in, especially so quickly in the year. We launched at the beginning of the year and I knew we were going to launch with Chris Jericho, who is one of the biggest names in history. I knew, when we did this, that we could get Chris. I knew that if I could make the pieces fit, Chris would come. We had all these exciting young wrestlers with The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega. What I never expected was Jon Moxley would get out of WWE and be available to us for our first show. That was a huge surprise to me."

Moxley attacked Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho to close AEW Double or Nothing and wrestled his first AEW bout at Fyter Fest against Joey Janela. He and Jericho are currently involved in a feud against one another.
