Tony Khan addresses the release of CM Punk.
On Saturday evening, AEW released a statement saying that the company had terminated its agreement with CM Punk.
To open AEW Collision, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the viewing audience, saying Punk endangered innocent people backstage and that for the first time in AEW, he felt that his security, his safety, and his life were in danger at a wrestling show. He said that he and the people at work should not feel that way and that he had to make a decision to release Punk.
Khan reiterated that he came to the decision based on the recommendation of outside legal counsel and a disciplinary committee

Before the show started, Khan addressed the live audience in Chicago, where he said he had to make a difficult decision in regards to releasing Punk. He made similar comments to his opening statement on AEW Collision, which is that he felt he and others were in danger.
The Chicago crowd booed him, and Khan said the reaction was a little nicer than he was expecting.
