Trevor Lee Says He Was Originally Supposed To Lose In Second Round Of 2019 NXT Breakout Tournament

In 2019, Trevor Lee (Cameron Grimes in WWE) went to the finals of the first-ever NXT Breakout Tournament.

Lee would lose to Jordan Myles (ACH) in the finals after defeating Bronson Reed and Swerve Strickland (Swerve Scott in WWE) in the first two rounds.

According to Lee, the match against Swerve changed plans for the second round.

“When I first started into NXT and it was the black and gold, I started in the breakout tournament. It was really cool, my first match was against Shane Strickland at the time. The original booking you could say if that tournament was that I was supposed to be out in the second round. But, me and Strickland had such a good match that Hunter really liked that he decided to change that booking up a little bit and advance me to the finals where I worked Jordan Myles, formerly known as ACH," Lee said to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture.

Though he didn't win the tournament, Lee would find success in NXT, winning the Million Dollar Championship and NXT North American Championship during his time with the promotion.

Elsewhere during the interview, Lee commented on Vince McMahon taking him off the WWE SmackDown scripts. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
