Professional Wrestling is, at its core, storytelling. And some of the best storytelling occurs in writers rooms.
While WWE may not have a writers room, per se, there is room for collaboration.
Collaboration is something that current WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H believes in, especially when he gets to do it with some of the other greats in the company.
Triple H recently spoke with the High Performance Podcast, and he detailed the importance of collaboration in the company, specifically citing working with CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Paul Heyman.
"It’s being open to thoughts different than yours and being willing to collaborate on them to make them great. We did a contract signing with CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Paul Heyman. We all know the premise of this contract signing for a while, and we know the highlights of the contract signing are. You’re going to sign this contract, Punk is going to get his opportunity to main event WrestleMania, but there is afavor that is owed, but the shoe that drops is, ‘That’s not the favor you owe me.’ We all hash out what that segment will look like probably a couple of weeks, a week before. Then we get there that day and everyone has the basic core tenets of this. The four of them sit in a room and figure out exactly what they’re all going to say, how they’re going to say it, and who is going to say what and the reacts and emotions. I let them sort of go do it, but if they have a question of ‘where are we going to go with this?’ or ‘how does that work?’ or ‘we’re all on the fence about this, can we run this by you? We’re thinking about doing this.’ That sounds cool here, but now I’m on the outside looking in and I can say, ‘What if you did this?’ ‘Oh, that adds a whole other layer, we didn’t think of that.’ Collaboration and the ability to trust performers to go out and do their things. Trust has to be built over time because there are some performers that you can’t. I don’t trust your instincts and I don’t know that you have the best guts for where we want to go, so we want to control that a little more until you get to a certain level and you earn that trust and learn how we work together. When they’re at that level, then there is this collaborative process," Triple H said.
Clearly, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Paul Heyman are at that level.
