The Undertaker thinks the streak could have ended sooner.
At Judgment Day 2000, the Undertaker returned to television under a new gimmick, coming out as the American Badass. The character change helped shift Undertaker into more of a "reality" based character as opposed to The Deadman.
Undertaker has said in the past that he felt the switch was needed so he could keep up with the likes of Steve Austin and The Rock with the way they were doing promos.
At the time of the change, Undertaker was 8-0 at WrestleMania, but The Streak wasn't as sacred as it would come to be.
Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker was asked if he thought the Streak would have ended soon had the American Badass not come to life.
"I would have to think the percentages would be pretty high that the streak would have gotten broken sooner. I don't know that for certain, but the percentages, and my understanding of our business, tells me that would have been a nice checkmark on somebody that was coming up. Little did we know that Steve's career would be cut short. Little did we know that Rock was going to come off and become a big movie star. I would have gotten fed to one of them, and it would have been the right thing to do," said Undertaker.
The Streak would live until 2014 when Undertaker was defeated by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30.
