Undertaker Was Worried About Looking Too Thin To Be Believable When Wearing Kane's Attire In 1998

Undertaker reflects on dressing up like Kane in 1998,

The character, played by Glenn Jacobs, debuted in the latter half of 1997. Throughout 1998, The Undertaker and Kane went on a journey filled with vengeful intentions, plenty of costume swaps, personal secret revelations, and eventual reconciliations. In 1998, Undertaker put on his in-character brother's gear several times, including for a full match with Mankind.

Speaking about this experience on the latest episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, Mark Calaway says he doesn't recall who came up with the idea but notes that he was fond of it, even if he was worried about being too thin for the Kane bodysuit.

"I don't know whose idea it was, but it was genius," he began. "It was just funny because you're with these people all the time but when you have to emulate them, your mannerisms, and everything, it does become kind of pressure-filled to sell it without [the audience] being tipped off. When we did that, I think Kane was probably 25 times heavier than I was. I was like, 'Oh man, I'm going to look like 'anorexic Kane' in this suit. Both times, it came off without a hitch. Nobody had a clue, and this is one of those iconic moments when I pulled the mask off and everything. Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler flipping out. It was fun. That was real great. It was creative booking and good stuff. "

The events of Undertaker's 1998 led him to form the Ministry of Darkness in early 1999. Undertaker had previously stated that Kane was not slated to be part of the group. Learn more here.
