Mustafa Ali talks about the advice he got from the boss!
Mustafa Ali has now been a part of WWE's main roster for one-full month and during his time as a part of the main roster he has pinned the WWE Champion and competed in a #1 contender match to determine a challenger for Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in two weeks. With the exposure that Ali is getting comes with more feedback and aside from his peers, Ali has received a great deal of advice from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Ali joined Chris Jericho's 'Talk Is Jericho' podcast and stated that when he was on 205 Live he had conversations with Vince McMahon but now that he's on SmackDown those conversations have been more direct and Ali recalled a conversation he had with Vince during-which the Chairman told Mustafa that he has that babyface underdog aura about him and that is how he is going to make money in the WWE.
“You know, and the thing that blew me away was and this is just a small thing, Vince has always been very positive. I've actually went and met with him a few times to kind of introduce myself and what I represent -- like this conversation we’re having right now like, ‘Hey I just wanted to let you know this is my background. This is what I think is cool. This is how I think the company can leverage me’ so, I’ve talked to him before but this was the first time he gave me very specific direction on how he thought I could make money in WWE, and I came back, he gave me feedback about the promo on this and that and he goes, ‘The one thing I wish you would’ve changed’ and he’s like, ‘A guy like you, you’re always, always fighting from under’. He goes, ‘You have this rare quality to get actual empathy from the crowd’ because that’s so hard nowadays." Ali recalled. "Nowadays people are just like whatever. He goes, ‘I feel like you actually have the ability to make people go, 'Wow he’s really taking a beating’. He goes, ‘That’s where you’re gonna make your money’ and he’s kind of pointing at my chest when he’s saying that. He’s like, ‘That’s how you’re gonna make your money’ and I’m like, ‘Holy crap’, and it’s crystal clear direction now. This is what he sees me as. I’m like, ‘Yeah, okay I can do that boss’ and he’s like, ‘Alright, good job’ and that was it and it was very quick obviously but I was like, that was the most clear -- this is what I want from you that I’ve gotten from him. Okay. That’s what you’re gonna get.”
