Wendi Richter: I Hope Cyndi Lauper Goes Into The WWE Hall Of Fame, She's Done More For Wrestling Than Any Celebrity

Wendi Richter makes the case for Cyndi Lauper to go into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Wendi Richter and Cyndi Lauper were as important to the rise of WrestleMania and WWE in the 1980s as Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Many of the early events for WWE on MTV were tied to Lauper's popularity and her involvement with WWE storylines.

Wendi Richter went into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011, but Cyndi Lauper has yet to be inducted into the celebrity wing. In an interview with DS of Ring the Belle, Richter made the case that Lauper has done more for professional wrestling than any other celebrity, and deserves to take her rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame.

"I still love that song. Years later, I was still going out to the ring to that song, they knew that song. They knew who was coming out," Richter said of Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun. "I think it always will be [a popular song]. It's fun. Just having Cyndi Lauper, that's all I needed. After that, I became a household word. I'm just hoping that someday she'll be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the celebrity division. I mean, she's done more for wrestling than any celebrity has. So, it just has to be that it's not good timing for her."

Bob Uecker, Drew Carey, Kid Rock, and Pete Rose have also been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame's celebrity wing.

Elsewhere in the interview, Richter responded to the challenges Toni Storm had made to her. Learn more here.
