During the week of WrestleMania 41, Triple H appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and said, "If they are not here to be all in on this...when I see people coming out of trying to make it, and then they pick a job where, well, they work less, the schedule is lighter, then I'm like, 'I'm glad I didn't pick you.' If you're not in it for the grind, at that point early in your career, you have no business being here."
Many theorized that Triple H was talking about Will Ospreay, who had decided to sign with AEW over WWE.
Ospreay responded on an episode of Dynamite by saying, "Normally I wouldn't rise to this type of bait, but seeing as the guy that said it is only in the position he's in because he was grinding on the boss' daughter, you are in no position to tell me what the grind is all about my friend because you have no idea what I fight for."
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Ospreay was asked about the exchange.
"He didn't say my name," he commented.
Asked why he thinks Triple H was talking about him, Ospreay says, "He was. I've got people that I won't throw under the bus who said, 'Yeah, it's about me.' I won't throw anyone under the bus, but it was about me. I'm not taking it personally in that, 'Oh, it hurt my feelings.' It's like, you take a jab at me, I'll take one back. There's nothing horrible about it. I don't hate the guy. I've never met him. How can I hate someone that I've never met? I've never spoken to him. I have an agent who talked to everyone and I told everybody about my situation and why I wanted to remain in the UK, which is why that hurt me a little bit. Not to the point where it keeps me up at night. Okay, you take a jab at me, I take one back. That's it. We're done."
Triple H has not elaborated on his comment or spoken about Ospreay.
